What I want for Christmas is a new Evo engine...

So the story goes like this I am coming outta North Wildwood going maybe 70mph in the passing lane and just when I get to the top of the bridge the motor cuts out on my bike, no noise, no throttle response just dead. So I coast down the first bridge and think its electrical so I try popping the clutch to no avail. Anyway checked the fuel, had some so anyway after going over the bike I couldn't figure out what the heck happened so I started pushing. 3-4 miles later I realized how bad of an idea it is to push a 700 lb bike around.
So I ended up at a shop where diagnostics tells me I need a new engine and $4000 to put it in and yadda yadda yadda some motorcycle types and I grabbed the bike and put it in my shop for later.

Turns out since it busted in late August I haven't had time to really mess with it until Sandy happened. So I hunkered down at the factory the night the storm hit and pulled it apart. Busted crank and a really messed up case. So I took the case to Nick's up in Williamstown to get patched up and I haven't been back to see how its coming along. It is brutal everyday looking at that naked bike and 50 degree weather almost daily this whole month so wish me luck and extended patience. Merry Christmas everybody

Harry and Beans Coffee @ Corson's Coffee @ 55st. Ocean City

So  I met these two guys recently who had this very unique vision for a coffee bar in the south end of Ocean City. There really isn't much down that way except the surfing beach next to the pier so its nice and quiet. Anyway, I made them up a custom blend based on Fair Trade Organic Sumatra. They will brew you the finest cup of coffee around individually! They also do anything but regular drip coffee if you're in a hurry. They also offer cold-brewed iced coffee and other treats. So stop on over and say hi to Russ and Elon and tell 'em I sent ya...

Fiona Friday..err Saturday, its been a rough week

So this week Fiona graduated from preschool, holy mackeral! ...now its camp to camp bounce all summer till kindergarten in the fall. For what some think a silly excercise (preschool graduation) , it was pretty emotional. She did do a cool cap toss that landed on her head so I guess I shoulda heeded the warnin on grad cap tossing. Then the heat wave struck though I cant complain my pops handled a buck eighty degrees for almost 40 years in a glass factory. Farmer's market drama and preparation had me pullin my hair out but everything actually got done and all orders were shipped out...kinda nice to cruise a bit this afternoon.
I'll be in Stone Harbor on Sundays and Margate on thursdays slingin coffee cups, pounds ground to order and bean machine shots so come say hi, see ya there!

New Harry and Beans Coffee Mugs!!!

So a couple years ago down in Cape Hatteras, I found this really cool mug from the Orange Blossom cafe that was 100%  handmade in the USA. Anyway it was a local potter that somehow pushed a 3-D logo into the mug and it was really special. So I looked up this guy a month or so ago and he produced some really special mugs for Harry and Beans Coffee. Each mug is unique with a 3-D logo and a large comfy handle. I'd say they hold about 11 ounces of coffee so they're a really versatile size. They are also microwavable (Blech don't know why you'd ever do that) and also dishwasher safe. Check out the artist that made 'em here . I'll have these beauties on the website pronto...

Reading the funniest stuff on forums lately...

so this post has been cracking me up all day. i couldn't sleep so instead of lying there forcing it why not check out some of the many forums I check into from time to time. There are so many internet characters out there that show up in the diversity of my interests, their personalities are really similar regardless of the subject matter. For instance, you could be on a yoga forum and there will be a pompous claimer about the good old obscure days of yoga or another site dedicated where the hallowed history of baseball is over-glorified  and then move on to a chopper site taking about the only real chopper is a knucklehead. where it is if the same guy has posted on all three topics on different sites in the same bitter -used -to-be authentic tone...someday I'd like to write a book on forum characters and their internet steroid personas ... anyway I happened upon a rave topic and this post answers one of those old-timers in an ironical kinda way. here goes:
"mid to late 90's in Chicago = EPIC!!!

they had this laser tag place called Photon that closed in the mid 90's where i used to go to birthday parties as a kid, then raves as a teenager/college student. they had two of these two floored areans, complete with tunnels, balconies and all types of crazy shit that they used to hold CRAZY parties in. the building was/is owned by the mob so the cops never did anything. it is now a strip club and i went there a few weeks ago for my bachelor party."

ha ha ha ha ha  I used to love Photon

Harry and Beans Coffee now @ Ella's in Cape May

So I have been working on this new blend for Ella's Good to Go down in Cape May...of course its fair trade organic ...they wanted something really different with lots of character...we hit it off rather well on liking stuff with character because we drive these old cars around anyway back to the coffee.... really dark and special...so I made them up a delicious new brew. Based off Ethiopian Yirgacheffee, this mix packs a wallop so if you're down in the Cape, pop on in and try the new blend. Check out Ella's on facebook here or if you just wanna drive on over 326 Carpenters Lane, Cape May, NJ. 1 609.884.3350
Cool stuff for cool people

Dyna glide comin along...

My bike project is really coming along. Handlebars, risers and grips all locked down. Threw on some old triumph fork boots for a bit of retro flair. Joker machine bmx styled pegs for up front and a slimmed down le pera seat in the back. It really slims the bike down a whole bunch and makes that flippy fender pop! Im really liking how this thing is going...now im searching for solid saddlebags not leather and maybe a mini fairing for spring

New Motorcycle-Harley Koolaid drinker

So my Dad decided to retire from many years of work and many years of motorcycling. I am one lucky proud son to get my hands on this...I remember all the drama of him ordering this thing and the long wait to get it. He ended up surprising my Mom with the color. Now they can begin their life on the road with a couple extra wheels and I couldn't be happier for 'em. So the bike will undergo some somewhat significant changes under my hands- I'm really liking the Mad Max motif he already started but the color stays for sentimental reasons. A truck driver on a delivery today said he was gonna start calling me Barney. I ripped around the block a couple times, lean and mean. Anyway you will hear me coming a mile a way because loud pipes save lives, stay tuned!

Good news for those who hate washing their jeans...

"Last year a microbiology student at the University of Alberta, Josh Le, wore the same pair of raw denim jeans for 15 months without washing them and then tested their bacterial content. He tested them again two weeks after washing them and found the bacterial content to be much the same."
---from Andrew Sullivan's blog you can read the rest here
........this is actually pretty awesome, in high school, my best friend did this our whole senior year--not so gross after all

Harry and Beans Premium Blend

So I've been roasting Premium Blend for about ten years or so...recently I decided to re-visit the blend to make it pop a bit. I roasted up the kenyan component a bit darker and lightened the sumatra. What happenend was amazing, full bodied smokey flavors with a much more accentuated winey aftertaste , yum! So its still and amazingly fun coffee to drink but with a much more aggressive character...did a couple pulls through the espresso maker and I am blown away...I added it up to the webstore so grab some for next week

Another new gem from Bing Surfboards...

I was fortunate enough to get this 9'5 elevator from Bing 12 days ago at about 5pm. The cool part was Smokey and I pulled it straight from the packing box and put it right into a travel bag as I was due on a plane to coffee land 12 hours later. I didnt really get a good chance to check out the board till I unwrapped it many hours later to wax and ride right before dark. This is my third elevator and after about twenty sessions on it, I think its the best. This one is thinned out alot and really foiled. It features a very pronounced s-deck like I prefer on my mid-range boards and a glass-on greeNOW fin...I really love this board off the bottom and in the pocket. Alot of people underestimate how turnable Matt's longboards are...this one fits how I am currently surfing at the moment; rails and stretch fives to laybacks. Cant wait to give it a spin in cold water tomorrow to see how she goes here. big thanks to Will over at Roots Surfcraft for tightening 'er up after some slight damage on the plane ride back, thanks buddy
